On Wednesday, September 2, 2020, a ceremony was held at the corner of North Bend Road and I-74 to dedicate the newly installed flag pole in honor of our late parishioner the late William (Bill) Milazzo who passed away on July 23, 2019. Bill was a proud Navy Veteran and staunch supporter of all Military members and their families. Bill helped establish the AMVETS Post 1988 where he once served as Commander and then went on to became a Charter member along with his wife Monnie who served as a member of the Auxiliary. Post 1988 conducted the ceremony along with Green Township Trustee, Tony Rosiello a Color Guard and a bugler playing Taps. A plaque will be installed dedicated to Bill Milazzo and all those Veterans from Green Township. All of us remember Bill as a good man, husband, father and friend.
On Tuesday, we celebrate the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, the feast that was observed in Rome before the end of the 7th Century. It commemorates the cross used in the Crucifixion of Jesus. The feast on September 14th of every year recalls three events: One, the finding of the true Cross by Saint Helena. Two, the dedication of Churches built by Constantine on the site of the Holy Sepulchre and Mount Calvary. Three, the restoration of the True Cross to Jerusalem in AD 629 by the Byzantine Emperor Heraclius, after it had fallen into the hands of the Persian Emperor Chosroes II the AD 614 Sasanian conquest of Jerusalem.
